Laravel is a strong choice for business web applications such as portals, dashboards, SaaS products and APIs, especially when you want to ship quickly and hire PHP developers easily in India. It's less of a fit for real-time-heavy apps where a Node.js stack shines, or for teams that already work in another language.
We use Laravel on a lot of client work because it removes the repetitive parts of building a web app. Here's why, and where we'd pick something else.
1. It handles the boring parts for you
Login, password resets, email verification, queues, scheduled jobs, file storage and caching all come built in or as first-party packages. That's weeks of work you don't pay for on every project.
2. Eloquent makes database work fast to write and read
Eloquent, Laravel's ORM, lets developers work with database tables as simple objects. Relationships such as "an order has many items" take a line to define. For business apps full of records and reports, that adds up quickly.
3. Security defaults are sensible
Laravel protects against common attacks out of the box:
- CSRF tokens on forms
- Parameterised queries through Eloquent and the query builder, which prevent SQL injection
- Automatic escaping in Blade templates against cross-site scripting
- Strong password hashing with bcrypt or Argon2
- Built-in rate limiting for login forms and APIs
Defaults don't replace careful coding, but they remove whole categories of mistakes.
4. The ecosystem covers most business needs
First-party tools solve common jobs: Sanctum for API authentication, Horizon for monitoring queues, Cashier for subscription billing, and Nova for admin panels. Filament, a popular community package, is another common choice for admin panels. Front-end assets are built with Vite, which replaced the older Laravel Mix. The wider community adds well-maintained packages, such as Spatie's media library and permissions packages.
5. Hiring and handover are easier
PHP developers are easy to find in India, and Laravel code follows clear conventions. If you ever change development partners, another Laravel team can pick up the project far more easily than custom, undocumented code.

Planning something like this?
Tell us what you need. After a short call we send a written scope, timeline and fixed quote.
When would we choose something else?
| Situation | Better fit |
|---|---|
| Real-time features at the core, like live chat or tracking | Node.js |
| Heavy data science or machine learning | Python with Django or FastAPI |
| Large enterprise with an existing Java team | Spring Boot |
| Mostly static content site | A CMS or static site |
What should you check before choosing?
- Who will maintain it in three years, and what do they know?
- Does the app need real-time features at its core?
- Will hosting be shared, a VPS or a cloud platform? Laravel runs well on all three.
- Is there a mobile app planned that will use the same backend through an API?
Where can you host a Laravel app?
Laravel runs almost anywhere PHP does:
- Shared hosting, for small internal tools with little traffic
- A VPS from a provider such as DigitalOcean or AWS Lightsail, for most business apps
- Managed servers through Laravel Forge, or Laravel's own hosting platform, Laravel Cloud
- Full cloud setups on AWS or Google Cloud for apps that need to scale
For Indian users, choosing a data centre in India keeps the app fast, and can matter if you have data-location requirements.
How long is each Laravel version supported?
Laravel's own support policy gives each major release 18 months of bug fixes and 2 years of security fixes. Plan an upgrade roughly every year or two, so your app never runs on an unsupported version.
How Codelix uses Laravel
Laravel is one of our core technologies, alongside React, Node.js and Spring Boot, so we choose per project rather than by habit. See our web development and custom software development pages for what we build with it.
