Modern HR Portal for Employee Benefits - Web Development
A modern, responsive web platform developed to simplify employee benefits, claims, and HR administration. The website includes a clean dashboard for employees to view benefits, submit claims, track approvals, and access important HR resources with ease.

Project Overview
The Modern HR Portal for Employee Benefits is a responsive, user-friendly web platform designed to streamline employee benefits, claims, approvals, and HR-related communication. Built for both HR teams and employees, the portal enables users to view their benefits, submit claims, track approval status, and access essential HR resources through a clean and intuitive interface.
The client is a 500-employee enterprise where benefits management was entirely manual. Employees submitted claims via email with scanned receipts, HR maintained eligibility data in spreadsheets, and approval chains happened through forwarded emails. Processing a single medical reimbursement claim took an average of 12 days, and employees had no visibility into where their claim was in the process.
We built the portal using Django for the backend (chosen for its robust admin capabilities and ORM), AngularJS for the interactive frontend, and Postgres for reliable data storage with complex relational queries across employees, policies, claims, and approvals. gRPC was used for real-time notification services.
This platform eliminates manual paperwork and scattered communication, allowing companies to improve transparency, reduce HR workload, and deliver a better employee experience. Since launch, claim processing time dropped from 12 days to under 3 days, and HR ticket volume decreased by 60%.
The Challenges
The problem we faced.
Employees used email, PDFs, or physical documents to submit claims, causing delays, lost records, and no audit trail — HR regularly discovered duplicate submissions and couldn't trace approval history for audits.
Employees had limited visibility into their own benefits — they didn't know their eligibility limits, remaining balances, or policy details without asking HR, which created a constant stream of repetitive queries.
HR teams spent excessive time responding to repetitive employee queries — an average of 15 hours per week was spent answering questions like "What's my leave balance?" and "Has my claim been approved?" instead of strategic HR work.
The approval workflow was informal (email forwarding between managers) with no tracking, no escalation for delayed approvals, and no notifications — claims would sit in a manager's inbox for weeks without action.
There was no centralized policy repository — benefits policies, claim guidelines, and HR handbooks existed as various PDF versions in different email threads, and employees often referenced outdated versions.
Management had no analytics on benefits utilization — they couldn't answer basic questions like "Which benefits are most used?", "What's our annual claims cost per department?", or "Which claims take longest to process?"
The Solutions
What we built instead.
An employee dashboard showing available benefits with real-time eligibility and remaining balance, policy details with plain-language summaries, claim history with status tracking, and the ability to send inquiries directly through the portal without email.
Digital claim submission with document upload (photos, PDFs, receipts), auto-validation of required fields before submission, real-time claim status tracking with timeline visualization, and push/email notifications at every approval stage.
Approval workflow automation with role-based approver routing, one-click approve/reject with comments, automatic escalation for claims pending beyond 48 hours, and complete audit trails showing who approved what and when.
An HR control panel to manage benefits programs, configure eligibility rules and limits per grade/department, track company-wide claim statistics with drill-down analytics, generate compliance reports, and manage policy documentation in a centralized repository.
A self-service knowledge base with searchable HR policies, claim guidelines with step-by-step instructions, FAQ sections for common questions, and contextual help tooltips throughout the portal — reducing HR support tickets by 60%.
Management analytics dashboards showing benefits utilization rates, department-wise claims analysis, processing time trends, cost projections, and anomaly detection for unusual claim patterns — enabling data-driven benefits strategy decisions.
