Short answer

ERP software development cost in India usually starts around ₹2.5 lakh for a focused setup with a few modules and goes past ₹25 lakh for a company-wide system with production, multiple branches and integrations. On top of that, plan for a yearly maintenance contract of 15–20% of the setup cost, plus hosting and GST API fees.

Most businesses start looking at ERP when spreadsheets, WhatsApp groups and Tally stop being enough: stock figures don't match, approvals get lost and nobody can see today's numbers without asking three people. The question that follows is always the same — what will it cost? This guide breaks the price down so you can budget before you talk to any vendor.

What ERP software development cost in India depends on

An ERP is not one product with one price. It is a set of modules, and the cost follows what you need it to do. These are the figures we publish for our own custom ERP, 4bitx, as of 2026:

Cost componentTypical rangeWhat it covers
One-time ERP setup₹2.5 lakh – ₹25 lakh+Module configuration, customisation, data migration, training
Annual maintenance (AMC)15% – 20% of setup costSupport, GST updates, bug fixes, monitoring
GST API integrationBilled separatelyE-invoice and e-way bill API costs through a GSP
Cloud hostingBilled separatelyServers and infrastructure
Major customisationsBilled separatelyNew modules or third-party integrations

You can see the full breakdown on the 4bitx product page. For a fully custom build rather than a configured product, our published bands for enterprise software run from $10,000–$25,000 for a focused system to above $60,000 for a large one — see our pricing page.

The six factors that move the price

Two companies can both say "we need an ERP" and end up ten times apart in cost. These are the reasons:

  1. Number of modules. Inventory alone is a small project; sales, purchase, inventory, production, accounts and HR together is a large one.
  2. Users and roles. Owners, accountants, store staff and salespeople each need different screens and permissions.
  3. Process complexity. Standard buy-and-sell flows are quick. Batch tracking, job work, multi-level BOMs or approval chains add time.
  4. Integrations. Tally sync, GST e-invoicing, payment gateways, barcode scanners and e-commerce stores each need building and testing.
  5. Data migration. Moving years of item masters, ledgers and open orders from Tally or Excel takes real effort to clean and verify.
  6. Branches and locations. Multiple warehouses, plants or companies need stock transfers, consolidated reports and access control.

Custom ERP vs off-the-shelf ERP pricing

Off-the-shelf ERPs look cheaper because they charge per user per month. Over three to five years, those subscriptions often add up to more than a one-time custom setup plus AMC — especially as user count grows. A custom ERP also fits your process instead of forcing your team to work around the software.

OptionUpfront costOngoing costFits your process
Off-the-shelf ERPLowPer-user subscription, rises with team sizePartly — you adapt to it
Custom ERPHigherAMC of 15–20% of setupFully — built around you
Tally plus spreadsheetsVery lowStaff time and errorsPoorly once you grow

If you are not sure which way to go, our guide on when to move from Tally to ERP covers the warning signs.

How long ERP development takes

A focused ERP with two or three modules typically goes live in 6–10 weeks. A full ERP covering production, accounts and multiple locations usually takes 3–6 months, rolled out module by module so operations never stop. The biggest variable is not coding — it is how quickly your team can confirm processes and clean up the data being migrated.

How to keep ERP cost under control

  • Start with the module that hurts most, usually inventory or sales, and add the rest after it is in daily use.
  • Keep Tally for accounts at first and sync to it, rather than replacing everything on day one.
  • Write down your current process before the first meeting; vague requirements are the main cause of overruns.
  • Ask for a fixed-price quote per phase, with what is and isn't included in writing.
  • Check who owns the code and data. You should, in full.

Hidden costs to ask about

The setup price is rarely the whole bill. Before you sign, ask any vendor about hosting, GST Suvidha Provider charges for e-invoices, SMS and WhatsApp message costs, paid third-party licences, training for new staff, and the hourly rate for changes after go-live. A good proposal lists all of these up front.

Yes. Many businesses keep Tally for accounting and sync vouchers and ledgers from the ERP, so the accounts team doesn't have to change tools.

Two or three modules usually take 6–10 weeks. A company-wide ERP is typically rolled out over 3–6 months, one module at a time.

Upfront, no. Over three to five years it often is, because there are no per-user subscriptions and you only pay for the modules you use.
